The Spartan Way (TSU) - formerly Mii + U

Each Mii + U will start with a quote that will be provided on the Week @ a Glance, and also on the GSHS Information Website.  The purpose of the quote is for the students to spend a few minutes reflecting on how the quote applies to their life, and then for the staff member to speak to its meaning in their life. If a class discussion ensues, that would be great.  If not, no big deal.  This is part of speaking into the lives of students.  Having them consider a meaningful quote, and sharing with them how it impacts us is good.

Once the quote discussion is complete each homeroom teacher should begin talking individually with their homeroom students.  There will be dialogue boxes in PowerTeacher where each homeroom teacher can enter information for the student they are speaking to (We will roll this out at the Department Facilitator meeting on September 17, and the All Hands meeting on September 24 for use on Tuesday, September 25).  We are looking for a simple conversation about the following topics:  What do you see as your strengths and weaknesses?  What are your hobbies and interests?  What are your short-term goals?  What are your long-term goals?

The purpose of Mii + U is for us to speaking with our students about things of consequence in their life.  This should be a simple, low stress environment that provides time to specifically focus on conversations about things that matter.  It is good for us to speak into their lives, and for them to hear us share a little of ourselves.  It is also good for adults who care to help them find their strengths, and areas they want to improve upon… as well as where they want to go in the future.  Many of our students do not have anyone talking to them about these things.
