Academic Inspiration (AI): These should be silent study halls.  A phone call should be made to the receiving teacher prior to allowing these students to leave, and the receiving teacher should call when they are sending them back.  The purpose is to motivate them to do their school work and get the help needed to improve their grade so they can have more freedom during their iSpartan time to use the time as they desire.  There should be no phones or earbuds permitted (except for school work purposes, of course – and when you deem professionally necessary so long as it aligns with the purpose of AI).  These students have demonstrated that they need our oversight, so please keep an eye what they are doing and encourage them to work on improving their grades.

Enrichment (E):  This should be a fun environment.  Students should be permitted to speak to each other, and phones and earbuds can be used at teacher discretion.  The noise level and activity should be kept at a reasonable level so those who desire to work are capable of doing so, but students should be permitted to interact with each other and do other things.  These students have proven that they can handle more freedom by taking care of business without needing our oversight.  Ask for their input on ways to make the enrichment time more exciting, and then feel free to put it into action.

Study Hall (SH):  These should be social study halls where students are permitted to work with each other if desired, and phones and earbuds can be offered as incentives if students work well for some reasonable period of time. More restrictive than enrichment, but more freedom than academic inspiration.
